Atahualpa and the Spaniards In 1532 Francisco Pisarro travelled to the Americas going from Panama to Tumbes in Perú. Atahualpa was the supreme Inca. Huascar and Atahualpa were brothers, sons of Huanapaca. When the Spaniards arrived the Incas thought they were gods. The Spaniards arrived at Cajamarca and “fear covered the men like a black mantle”. The king of the Incas was Atahualpa. When the Spaniards arrived the unarmed Indians were attacked and massacred. The Spaniards then took Atahualpa prisoner whom the Indians called “The King God”.
